Griffin Oaks Park
1800 NE Griffin Oaks St
Hillsboro, OR 97124
I have rain falling from gray clouds outside my window and a cup of coffee beside me. I figured that this would be a good time to blog about the latest park we visited.
Pros
off street parking
good playground
bathroom
indoor rec center
baseball field
basketball courts
open grass areas
good place for younger kids to ride bikes, etc.
Cons
only one bathroom that I noticed and there was usually a line
It was a nice evening and the kids, OK I, needed out of the house. I let my husband choose the park and this is what he picked. When we first got there my husband pointed out the sign to the parking lot. I noticed that the play stuff was far away. So I drove further to find another parking lot that was closer to the playground. The first thing I noticed was that it was a busy, exciting looking place. Kids running around on the playgrounds and biking on the paths. Adults playing basketball on the courts. I think there a softball or soccer (I can't remember, sorry) game going on. A father and daughter playing catch. A family having a BBQ.
The kids ran off to play on the bigger playground while my hubby and I looked for a place to sit and eat our food. There was a nice covered area with about 5 tables under it but it was being used by the family having a BBQ. There was one lone bench so we made ourselves comfortable. Had I been looking closer I would have noticed a nice rock wall that lined the back of the playground that is a perfect place to sit, but whatever. :)
rock wall perfect for sitting on or jumping off
The kids started out on the older kid playground. It had monkey bars, 4 swings, a couple slides, a not-so-spinny spinny thing and my kids favorite, a double zip-line thing. Then they headed to check out the younger kid stuff. That area had 2 infant swings, a couple slides and a crawl through tube.

In between the two areas was a paved walk and a covered area with tables. It was a nice place but it was a little tricky to see both areas at the same time. If my hubby hadn't been there, I think I would have had to insist that the kids play together on the bigger area. But since he was there to watch and help, my daughter got to play on the smaller stuff for awhile. Of course she spent about 10 minutes trying to get the sawdust ground cover out of her shoes, but she still had fun.
I didn't get a chance to check out the restrooms since there was usually a line. It was probably decent since I believe it was attached to the rec center.
Overall it was a fun park. A great place to have a picnic or family get together. So on the next sunny chance you get, go check out Griffin Oaks park and let me know what you think! :)
